Connecting your store
Framerlink reads your store through Shopify's Headless sales channel. You copy one token from Shopify, paste it into the plugin, and the connection is made — no Shopify app to install, no theme code to edit.
The Headless channel is Shopify's own, free way to expose a store to external storefronts through the Storefront API. It issues two tokens:
- a public access token, safe to use in a browser. This is what the plugin asks for when you connect, and what the components on your published site use to show live prices, stock and the cart.
- a private access token, which must stay secret. The plugin only asks for it when you turn on Auto-Sync, and it is stored encrypted and never shown again.
Install the Headless channel
- Add the channel
In your Shopify admin go to Settings → Apps and sales channels and look for Headless. If it isn't there, click Shopify App Store, search for Headless (by Shopify) and add it. It's free.
- Create a storefront
Open the Headless channel and click Create storefront. Name it after your Framer site — the name is only for you.
- Check the permissions
Open the storefront, then Storefront API → Manage. Make sure these are enabled: Read products, variants and collections, Read inventory of products and their variants, Read product tags, Read selling plans, and Read and modify checkouts (the cart). Save.
- Copy the public access token
Still on the Storefront API page, copy the Public access token.
Connect the plugin
- Open Shopify Link in your Framer project
From the canvas, open Plugins → Shopify Link. After signing in and subscribing you land on Connect your Shopify store.
- Enter domain and token
Type your shop domain as
your-store.myshopify.com(the.myshopify.comaddress, not a custom domain) and paste the public access token. - Connect
Press Connect store. The plugin checks the token against Shopify, saves the connection to this Framer project, and opens the home screen.
The Storefront API only returns products and collections that are published to the Headless channel. A new storefront starts empty: in Shopify, select your products, choose Make available (or Publish to channel) and pick Headless. Collections need the same.
One store per project
A Framer project connects to a single Shopify store, and a store can be connected once per account. To switch stores, open Store details in the plugin and Disconnect, then connect with the other store's token. Your placed components and CMS collections stay where they are.
You can see every store connected with your account, and remove one, at app.framerlink.com/stores.
Connection errors
| Message | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| That doesn't look like a Shopify domain | Custom domain or a typo | Use the your-store.myshopify.com address |
| Shopify rejected the token | Wrong token, or the private token pasted into the public field | Copy the public access token again from the Storefront API page |
| Missing permission | A Storefront API scope is off | Open Storefront API → Manage in the Headless channel and enable the permission named in the message |
| Subscription required | The account has no active plan | Press Subscribe in the plugin or open billing |
| This store is already connected | The same account already connected this store in another project | Open that project, or remove the store at app.framerlink.com/stores first |
| Couldn't reach Framerlink | Network problem or a temporary outage | Your token may be fine — check your connection and retry |
Rotating tokens
If you rotate the public token in Shopify, open Store details in the plugin and paste the new one under Credentials. Components pick it up after you reload the project. Rotating the private token only affects Auto-Sync; paste the new one in the Auto-Sync settings.
